CodeFu Goes Green

CodeFu is back!

The competition that excited over 18 generations of IT and tech students is returning for 2024 in a greener, more exciting format: a team hackathon tackling air pollution problems through technology, with a €3000 first-place prize, €1500 for the runner-ups, and €1000 for the 3rd-place finishers!

Pick your team and make a real impact on urban air quality!

If you’ve never heard of pulse.eco, it’s a crowdsourcing IoT platform that gathers environmental data from a network of sensor installations and other third-party sources and presents and translates them into visual and easy-to-understand information.

It is an already-proven, mature open-source ecosystem incorporating a web app, Android and iOS apps, various measuring devices and sensors, social media and website integrations, offering 7+ years of data and a RESTAPI for free usage. Check out skopje.pulse.eco for more!

The Competition:

You will be presented with in-depth details on what pulse.eco has, and can further provide.

It's up to you and your team's creativity to come up with an open creative solution that is only limited by your imagination.

Here are some examples to stir up your creative powers:

  • an AI assistant or analyzer
  • hardware/firmware improvements
  • mobile app features
  • digital signage
  • visualization improvements
  • forecasts
  • a new UI
  • home assistant/automation integration
  • a whole new system on top of pulse.eco
  • data analysis on the data sets
  • research
  • ...and anything beyond and in between

The Schedule:

Friday, November 22nd - deadline for sign-ups:

  • Competition entry is open until Friday, November 22nd at 23:59 - enter your team’s name, the names of the team members, and an email address we can contact you at.

Saturday, November 23rd - competition kick-off:

  • Join us on November 23rd at 12:00 at Netaville for the competition kickoff! Through a detailed presentation, you’ll understand the challenge and get acquainted with the technical details of all of pulse.eco’s assets and data sets.
  • Get any questions you may have answered before the competition starts through a Q&A session with the organizers.
  • Lock in your team’s and team members’ participation and register your idea with an official title.

November 24th to November 30th - time to work:

  • It's time to work with your team from anywhere you’d like - you can even reserve seats at Netaville and enjoy the working atmosphere and all its benefits.

Saturday, November 30th - submission deadline:

  • Submission deadline! Submit your work as a public GitHub repo via the form link you'll receive at the kick-off by Saturday, November 30th at 23:59 to be eligible for the prizes!

Sunday, December 1st - competition day:

  • Competition day! Come back to Netaville on Sunday, December 1st, at 12:00, and be ready to present your work to the judges and your competitors.
  • After the presentations are finished, the judges will score your submissions, and we’ll announce the winners, runner-ups, and 3rd-place finishers.

The Rules:

The rules for CodeFu are pretty simple:

  • Your team must consist of 2 to 4 people;
  • The final solution must be pushed in a public GitHub repo;
  • The final solution must be submitted via the MS Forms link by the stated deadline;
  • Your team must present their solution in front of the judges.

The Judging:

The team of judges will consist of experienced University professors, ensuring a fair, unbiased and transparent allocation of points.

Each solution will be graded according to these categories:

  • Innovativeness - how innovative and out-of-the-box your submission is
  • Feasibility - how real and feasible is the complete implementation and integration of the solution
  • Impactfulness - how much of an environmental or social impact could the submission have
  • Completeness - how complete and ready-for-market is the submission
  • Presentation - how big of a show will your team put on while presenting

The Prizes:

We've decided to award the three submissions with the most points from the Jury as follows:

  • The grand prize of €3000 will be handed to the team awarded with the most points from the Jury;
  • The runner-ups will receive €1500;
  • The third-placed team will receive €1000.
